Welcome to StageCore

1 min read

StageCore is STRUCTÜR’s family of practical theatrical systems for Second Life.

It exists because a Second Life stage is neither a miniature real-world theatre nor merely a decorative backdrop. It is its own performance environment, with its own possibilities, constraints, and ways of working.

StageCore honors the traditions of stagecraft without being bound by them.

What You Can Expect #

StageCore products are designed around a few consistent promises:

  • They work out of the box.
  • Their basic operation is visible and approachable.
  • They remain useful on their own.
  • They can grow into a coordinated system when your production requires it.
  • They use land impact and script resources carefully.
  • They support theatrical practice without forcing you to reproduce every limitation of real-world equipment.

A lighting fixture should be useful when you rez it.

A controller should make a collection of fixtures easier to operate.

A show-control product should add capability without making the simpler workflow obsolete.

That progression is deliberate.

Start Simple #

A StageCore venue can begin with a single fixture:

  • Rez it.
  • Place it.
  • Aim it.
  • Touch it.
  • Use it.

As the lighting plot grows, fixtures can be assigned to groups and operated together with a remote.

When a production needs repeatable cue-by-cue control across several groups, CueDesk can be added.

Future StageCore systems will extend that progression into more complete production control.

You are never required to adopt the entire ecosystem merely to use one product.

Visible Stagecraft #

StageCore instruments are intended to be visible parts of the performance environment.

Lighting fixtures can hang above a stage.

Control surfaces can sit in a booth.

Stage machinery can move scenery through purposeful, visible choreography.

This is not because Second Life must imitate reality. It is because the visual language of theatre carries meaning. A visible instrument helps a venue feel designed, inhabited, and ready for performance.

Built for Second Life #

StageCore does not attempt to recreate real-world control protocols merely for the sake of simulation.

Its internal systems are designed for the platform they actually inhabit.

The result is a Second Life solution to a Second Life problem: theatrical tools that feel familiar where familiarity is useful, take advantage of the virtual world where it is beneficial, and remain simple enough to serve the production rather than dominate it.

Where to Begin #

If you have purchased a StageCore product, begin with the documentation category bearing that product’s name.

For your first lighting installation, see the LightSuite documentation.

For common problems affecting more than one product, see Troubleshooting.

For version information, update guidance, and ways to request help, see Support and Updates.

Welcome to StageCore.

The stage is yours.
